Laboratory Techniques Traineeship with CMETB

Laboratory Techniques Traineeship with Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB).

Christopher Amegah is a past trainee who studied the Laboratory Traineeship in 2018 at Monaghan Institute.  In June 2019 Christopher successfully secured employed with Monaghan Mushroom.

This Traineeship was developed after the completion of the Occupational Skills Profile on the proposed career traineeship for Laboratory Technicians.

CMETB responded to an identified Skills Deficit within this sector and a growth in laboratory technician professions. The objective of the traineeship was to train individuals to meet staffing needs of participating companies.

The structure of the programme involved 17 weeks of classroom-based learning in Monaghan Institute and 12 weeks of worked based learning with a number of employers within Monaghan and Cavan.

CMETB interviewed a past trainee three years later after completing their Traineeship with CMETB.

“Since I moved to Ireland from Ghana I have lived the best moments of my life. I applied for the Traineeship in 2019, attended the Open Day and completed an aptitude test as part of the recruitment process. I was invited for an interview and offered a place on the course. Two weeks after college had begun, I got my work permit and went straight to school – I could not wait. On my first day, Aileen (Course tutor) and the rest of the class were so accommodative. Today, I am working as a technician with Mbio. It feels like a dream come true.”
