The researchers, who are based in RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Galway, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University College Dublin (UCD), have been awarded funding from Horizon Europe’s European Research Council (ERC). The Irish research ranges from neuromuscular-cognitive interactions and lung fibrosis research to 4D bioprinting and moral agency in election campaigns.
A total of 408 recipients, across 26 European countries, were awarded a share of the €636m ERC Starting Grant funding, with an average funding amount of €1.5m for each researcher.
The ERC, which is funded through the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, has a budget of more than €16 billion from 2021-2027. The ERC is designed to help emerging scientists with between two and seven years’ experience after their PhDs to launch their own projects, form their own teams and pursue their research ideas.
